The Swiss Family Carlson Mom goes shopping ALONE

The kids are in school! And they were pleased to go! Yay!

But as they were getting ready this brisk 50*F morning it became clear that the decision to bring only their shorts and to pack only 2 pairs of long pants for E and no long pants for H in the air shipment was a bit short-sighted.  (What can I say? I was hopeful the warm temps would hold out until October.)

So, I took a little shopping trip out.

All by myself.

So I went to Marktplatz to explore it again.

And let me say, the children’s clothing stores are few and far between.  The H&M there is only adult clothes (with very cute shoes).  And the Globus (this is for my friend Ginnie) has very expensive designer children’s clothes. It was fun though. I hadn’t seen the Pepe’ brand for years and years!

So I wandered around the Platz. And took a few pictures.

The Swiss are obsessed with pretzels.
The Swiss are obsessed with pretzels. There are pretzels with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.  And then they have them in baguette shapes so you can make sandwiches out of them.

The whole square is full of fruits, vegetables, flowers, pastries, sandwich trucks, crepe carts, honey vendors, and there is actually a person who only sells mushrooms!

I just love the colors! When I have my kitchen I'm going to be able to do something wonderful with all this!

I eventually did find some nice clothes for the boys. At a great, friendly, and reasonably priced French boutique (not an oxymoron).  The grandparents might be getting a fashion show via FaceTime in a few days.

I love wandering around Basel. This weekend, though we are planning on an excursion! Stay tuned for news about our trip to Cernier in Neuchatel.
