I joined some of the parents at the school for a 12 km hike around the country side of the town of Aesch just south of Basel. It has been a looong time since I’ve hiked that far at that pace, but it was so much fun! I met some people and, I think, made some friends.
It was a perfect day for a long hike. Slightly cloudy and just a little cool.
Flowers and beauty are important. I love the idea that the owners come out and cut their own bouquets for their tables. And it’s such a riot of color!
One of the best parts of the hike was the Sculpturweg, or Sculpture Way. An artist or group of artists have carved beautiful sculptures out of dead trees and stumps along the path. I wanted to talk pictures of every single one, but just couldn’t. There were so many!! These are some of the more fantastic ones, but there are so many more. They have focused on fairytale stories. You can find Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs along the path. I think I saw Rumpelstiltskin and Little Red Riding Hood with the Big Bag Wolf. I absolutely Can.Not.Wait to take the kids here.
Coming out of the Sculpturweg you are back in the farmland. There were cows (dairy) and goats and horses all over. Unfortunately I forgot to snap photos of them. I guess I was talking too much!
I hope I’ve given you a nice view of my part of Switzerland. As I was walking I was hearing about all sorts of other places I should see. Like Istanbul! And Lucerne! And Stuttgart! And I can’t wait to experience them all!
